On 1 October 2026, the Faculty of Forestry, Kasetsart University, represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyapong Thongdeenok, Vice Dean for Research and Innovation, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Wirongrong Duangjai, Vice Dean for International Affairs and Internationalization, joined an online meeting with Bohol Island State University (BISU), Republic of the Philippines. The meeting discussed how to carry out activities under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two institutions, and how to build on it to achieve concrete academic and research collaboration.

The meeting explored cooperation in several areas: joint research, capacity building, the development of joint research proposals, and the exchange of students and staff. Both sides agreed to start with research and capacity-building activities before expanding to student exchange at a later stage.

BISU also presented a collaboration framework under its graduate scholarship program and research on the Purple Yam Value Chain. The research covers tissue culture, crop resilience, the circular economy, and value-chain development. The two sides discussed linking these topics with the expertise of relevant researchers and units.

On research, both institutions exchanged ideas on areas of shared potential. These include long-term ecological and environmental monitoring, survey and sensing technologies, landscape management and nature-based solutions, biodiversity and ecosystem services, and environmental policy and governance. These areas will serve as a foundation for future joint research projects.

They also discussed opportunities to develop joint proposals for regional and international funding, drawing on the research expertise and resources of both universities. The aim is to strengthen research capacity and build sustainable academic collaboration.

After the meeting, the two institutions will coordinate information on research projects, applicants, and relevant fields of expertise. This will help match them with suitable faculty members and researchers, and support the development of projects and activities that can be carried out in the next phase.
